CARDIOTHORACIC NURSING


Several publications and books provides different definitions for cardiothoracic nursing. What is cardiothoracic nursing? is it a system based care? Is it a care provided by a specialised nurse in a specialised area of care? 

The word cardiothoracic comprises both circulatory (heart and blood vessels) and respiratory (Lungs) systems. Both of these systems are vital areas of the human body, which is closely connected with the functions of the other systems. There for a Cardiothoracic nurse should possess knowledge regarding all the structural and functional systems of human body.

understand these systems are tightly depends up on each other by their function and structure.
For example – excretory system- Blood pressure- rennin angiotensin – endocrine –CNS- blood vessels – heart -   ------think how these things are interconnected.
